I've been playing Guild Wars in my spare time over the last week and a half, and I like it. PvP is fun and interesting, and requires real teamwork. So, I have compiled a list of decent builds and pointers. First off, I'll go through the builds I like best.
*Note: "U/C" means "Upgrade Component".
*Note #2: All builds marked with an asterisk are also very good for PvM.
*Battledin - Warrior/Monk. Excels at tanking and last resort resurrections. With this setup, it can do massive damage and at times have over 900 Health. He is one tough jackass to kill.
Attributes:
12 Sword Mastery
9 Protection Prayers
9 Strength
3 Smite Prayers
1 Healing Prayers
Spells & Skills:
Sever Artery
Gash
Final Thrust (Or Galrath Slash, if you don't have)
"I will avenge you!" (Or Hamstring, if you get tired of Monks running from you)
Endure Pain
Vital Blessing
Balthazar's Spirit
Resurrection
U/C's Recommended:
Rune of Minor Vigor
Rune of Swordsmanship
Rune of Tactics
Rune of Strength
Cruel Sword Hilt
Pommel of Swordsmanship
Build Tips:
Choose a helmet that increases swordsmanship.
Choose armor that decreases damage taken.
Choose weapons/shields that have the "while enchanted" designation.
For you're secondary shield, use the one that has a 20% chance of increasing Protection Spells by 1.
At the beginning of every fight, switch to your secondary equipment and cast your two enchantments (BSpirit and VBlessing, VBlessing always being cast first). Then switch back to primary gear.
When attacking players, use attack skills in this order: Sever Arery, Gash, and Final Thrust/Galrath Slash. This insures you do maximum damage, and kill the person as quickly as possible.
Use "I will avenge you!" and Endure Pain as a last stand, their recharge times are long.
*Healer - Monk/Warrior. This guy is meant to have healing skills that would make Jesus jealous, and be able to run like a girl when under attack.
Attributes:
12 Divine Favor
9 Protective Prayers
9 Healing Prayers
3 Smite PRayers
1 Tactics
Spells & Skills:
Orison of Healing
Signet of Devotion
Mend Ailment
Sprint
Shielding Hands
Mending
Vital Blessing
Resurrect
U/C's Recommended:
Rune of Minor Vigor
Rune of Divine Favor
Rune of Healing Prayers
Rune of Protective Prayers
Build Tips:
Cast Mending, and Vital Blessing on yourself at the onset of every fight. You must stay alive at all costs so that your team members are not doomed.
When being attacked, use Sprint and run around the area staying close to the action so you can heal and stay out of danger simultaneously.
When healing and resurrecting, healers take precedence over all other team members, healers being the most important to keep alive.
General PvP Tips and Tricks:
Always attack monks and paladins first, getting them out of the way is your top priority. Next is necromancers and mesmers. Healers and spellcasters are extremely high threats.
Follow target calls! If someone is taking the time to call out healers and paladins, help them! I can't emphasize enough how important it is to act as one, and to target the same enemy with all members of your team - using the target guidelines in the last tip. I see people not doing this all the time when I do random t eam fights, and it pisses me off when I call out targets before the fight starts and everyone just goes off to do their own thing.
Never rush alone, never run too far ahead - again, teamwork is the only way to win!
If your fighting in the 4 Team FFA matches in the Hall of Heroes, and two teams start duking it out - let them kill each other! Swoop in after and clean up.
Monks serve no other purpose than to heal or cast Vital Blessing/Mending. Do attack, just keep healing tanks and other party members - tanks being your highest priority.
NEVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES RUN THROUGH LAVA - it causes your movement to be reduced by 33% and it hurts you badly.
When possible, always keep 3 tanks and 2 healers as a bare minimum on each PvP Team you create. Optimally, have the tanks use the Battledin setup and healers use the PvP Healer setups found above. Fill the remaining slots with Necromancers and Elementalists.
